Like other reviewer, I was too surprised to find that this item is flexible and can collapse. But it some times handy in my already crammed DSLR bag. Keep in mind that I have to make room for a couple of other lenses too. It sometimes appear deformed due to memory. A little bit of coaxing would take care of it. Not a big deal, just a minor annoyance. I had no idea when I purchased it, but it will work. The only problem that I foresee is that it will not last indefinitely as would a hard plastic lens hood. Product Description
Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.
